Overview
Northbeam needed a mobile app that felt as trustworthy as a legacy bank but as fast as a fintech startup. I led the end-to-end redesign, from information architecture to a full component library shared with engineering.
The problem
The existing app buried core actions like transfers and card controls under three levels of navigation, driving support tickets and churn during onboarding.
Process
Research & audit
Mapped every user flow against support ticket data to find where trust broke down, then reworked the IA around four daily jobs-to-be-done.
System first
Built a token-based design system in Figma before touching a single screen, so every future feature would inherit the same rhythm and hierarchy.
Prototyping & testing
Ran three rounds of moderated testing on high-fidelity prototypes, iterating on transaction flows until task completion crossed 95%.
Results
Onboarding completion rose 38% and support tickets related to navigation dropped by more than half within the first quarter post-launch.
